I went to the Park. Or perhaps I should say I went to a park that has been invaded by a Recreation Center.
But I didn’t come to recreate, I came to see some natural beauty. This coral tree gave me an immediate lift! All leaves are gone but flower clusters remain.

Here’s the playground part of the park.

No kiddies so I could take some photos. All the adults were hanging out or fooling around with balls or dogs

I moved on to the perimeter where I could see some “park” as opposed to “recreation”.

Here’s a PARKing structure for a nearby community college.
And stern signs that say STUDENTS: DO NOT PARK HERE (without a permit).

Upper reach of a branch of Tecolote Canyon.

A cool glade (sadly lots of litter around)

See what I mean? It’s not just McDonald’s wrappers and beer cans.

Chollas “Jumping Cactus” I was ever so careful but even as I held this it stabbed me! See the little piece of bark flying as I winced.

Don’t worry, it was PARKed.

Unsightly construction debris and rusty shipping containers were scattered around about 10% of the park perimeter. And probably wasn’t noticed by people doing recreational things.

Sadly, California outlawed quality paint years ago, so now we, the people, have clean air but unreadable signs. Dogs get the readable signage but are illiterate. Go figure!

Can you see it? I’m pretty sure you cannot.

Let me help you.
I stood and talked for a couple minutes to this rabbit, who was quite safe in the middle of this cactus patch, but he had virtually nothing to say to me. Just a squeak, then he turned and hopped away.

I got a touch more of nature’s beauty as I watched this bird starting on a nest for its eggs and eventual children,

while across the road was the Center for Human Children (with “behavioral issues” and other maladies that require confinement)

A bird taking a bath in the remains of yesterday’s rainstorm.

And someone else who can’t read signage who is living here, drying out their belongings on the parking lot pavement.

As I walked back to my car I passed the National Guard Repair facility, where old Hummers go to fade away or die.

I Want One!

The College Design Center

Some oddly-designed & oddly-colored apartments (they have a vacancy)

and some strangely-similar, archy-designed apartments a few blocks away;

and a very unusual T-Bird which we saw (if you are a regular reader) back in September, in Pacific Beach.
