TimeOut

Thanks for sharing your trip here!

Looks like you were passing through Norfolk around the same time I was there with friends, looking at various industrial (mostly seafood processing) and military sites. Also did a harbor tour where the guide described all those ships we were passing by (as well as some of the really interesting support vessels and facilities in the area). High point was absolutely, positively touring the USS Wisconsin -- which of course you passed-- and specifically the 2 optional tours of that ship (Engine Room, and Command/Control). Highly recommend. Nearby Fort Monroe was interesting as well.

Your phone screen showing the map of that little sliver of southeast Georgia/northeast Florida (many of which are on the Altamaha River) really made me smile too. Spent a lot of time years ago on the rivers that go by those tiny, slightly inland towns. If you've ever had to use topo maps repeatedly in the same geographic area, you know that the map quad names stay in your head because you have to know which quad is coming next as you're traveling, and you've looked at them so many times. So names like "Ludowici" and "Jesup" (which is mostly covered up by the magnifying glass image) and "Darien" are indelibly imprinted in my brain even though I don't remember much about the specific geography.

Thanks again for sharing this, and glad you enjoyed your trip, including the "escort"!
