Pacific Beach — Architecture & Animals

Hi guys, we are walking again and went to PB today. It’s an old neighborhood well on its way to being converted to multi-family units on most lots. It’s full of charm and quirky details, so lets get moving, ok?

The first 4 pictures are on the same intersection. Look at the variety - a small group of apartments under flowering trees.

Small and Modern apartment complex.

Single family house with siding (rare in SD) and white picket fence

Hippie pad with garden ornaments (Skulls) and citrus.

Closeup of inset tile on an apartment complex called Casa Frida, which is overseen by an ornery sea gull.

This cat came to see us but stopped to lick itself before bothering to say hello.

Huge tree dominates this corner home.

This looks like a beautiful Craftsman home in the mountains, perhaps.

Right next door to a tropical banana plant tiki face.

We inadvertently entered a hummingbird combat zone OR they were doing the birds & bees thing my mom told me about.

The sun briefly broke through the clouds but didn't change their speed and manic moves.

Home of the hummingbirds!

Hummingbird adventure over, we stopped to talk to a nice lady with this dog by her side. She said her husband was “a watch guy” so I gave her my card. If you are reading this and recognize your dog, please say hello.

Another lady with 2 dogs chatted with us for awhile, She was a newspaper reporter in her working years and we had a chat about the demise of that business

There are at least a dozen historic homes like this in PB, and I’m sure there is a list somewhere… just haven’t bothered to look for it.

Here’s contrasting color delight, more typical of the area probably Forties or Fifties construction.

We noticed the chimney and were observing the details of this house when the owner drove up. My wife exclaimed on how nice the house looks; next thing you know we are inside checking it out.

It started out a Fifties tract home but this lady and her husband transformed it into a mountain cabin.

How long has it been since you've been on a tire swing?

A succulent mailbox was just down the street. I wonder what the Post Office thinks of this…

The variety continued to amaze us.

Traditional to modern. Dark to bright.  White cars all over the place.

Two on one lot; no doubt two architects. I think that's a newer Fiat 124 in the driveway.

I finally caught a hummingbird sitting still for a change!

Brick is the least common building material in San Diego. I liked the wall or fence posts peeking through the hedge.

Plumeria! This tree was at least 12-14 feet tall.

My wife says this is a guava.

The fruit!

Handy street sign.

Roman Catholic Church tower.

Trendy seafood restaurant.

Not so trendy, perhaps.

We started to get hungry for breakfast, and headed home.

The End.
