We walked east of the airport today

It was hilly, noisy and generally exhausting (pun intended). First, let me show you the view. In the foreground is the airport and Marine Corps Recruit Depot. In the distance to the west you can see Point Loma.

We started near the top of the hill, by the Three Sisters, identical houses built over a century ago.

"These landmark properties, the “Three Sisters” mansions, date back to 1912, each 3700 sq. ft. were originally built for one owner. Each house is now separately owned."

Check out this underground lair!

Sidewalks dated between 1914-1926, so pretty old by California standards. That said, we found lots of interesting details, as one does in old neighborhoods.

A few local specimens popped out for a glance at us.

There were many scary staircases, from the days when most people didn't have cars and getting up/down slopes was difficult. Here even the two directions of the street are on different levels.

The stairs help people manage the typical San Diego terrain: Hilly with mesas and canyons. Here we are looking East.

"Yes, my house is the grey one on the corner. No, no other identifying details come to mind ..."

Rare Backlit Butterfly

Nice detailing on some of the homes.

More canyons as we thread our way South, trying not to lose altitude...

We are almost at aircraft height.

Cactus spikes are always interesting (to me)

A lazy lizard laid low, while we talked with the owner of his brick wall;

she had a nice vintage tandem bike and a wind chime of sea shells.

We had a black Schwinn tandem when we got engaged, 50 years ago, but it was a bit step up from hers (training at the velodrome).

We headed down this steep sidewalk. You can see the bay in the distance.

These three photos span ONE MINUTE of elapsed time:

If this cat could cover its ears, it would have. Instead it just glared "You humans are SO noisy" at me.

Also SEEN, but not heard, multiple Navy carriers! The sky was matching gray this morning.

Inside and outside the harbor

This is a brand-new vessel, John Lewis-class fleet replenishment fuel/oil supply ship, the Earl Warren 207 -- it was delivered May 2024.

More non-stop action than we could imagine! Must be summertime in San Diego. Alaska and Southwest seem to be the most frequent carriers here.

Now we are back to the first of the Three Sisters.

My watch for today, photo by my wife.

Another beautiful butterfly makes my day.

Thanks for walking with us, you might also want to see the separate segments on Motorcycle and Surfboard shops.

Cheers,

Cazalea
