Mission: Visit Mission Hills, Part 1

Shall we go immediately to the walk? No, wait, even though I took this picture at the end of our adventures, today I am going to post the watch first, so I don't forget.

This is an Ochs & Jr Moonphase; ti, 42 mm, etc... Details here.

Mission Hills is an old neighborhood, up on the hills above San Diego's Old Town. Strictly speaking, the Mission was about 6 miles inland from here, but the first Fort (or Presidio) is below Mission Hills. Enough of the geography, let's go on up the hill and see what we can find of interest.

Modern, low, clean. Matching foliage. Almost to the top of the hill, we turn to the left and enter the neighborhoods.

Completely different, isn't it. Only about 100 yards from the modern house. The owner is a detail-oriented person. Notice the finely-sculpted tree there by the door.

Here's the rest of the house. I took the picture from a careful angle as I had just watched the owner pull the cover off his matching white GT3 as you can see on the left.

This is a Sixties/Seventies house - it's what they were building when I got out of college and started to have to look for a place to live. Tried it, didn't like it.

While this is more New England style maybe Thirties, Forties? Great image and curb appeal with flowering tree and dramatic clouds.

This is southern California Craftsman style, very popular in Mission Hills. Notice the stone trim - picked up from the back yard, no doubt. I said more about this building material in another post when we were walking in "Abnormal Heights" here is a link.

Kicking it up a notch, this house (with outbuildings and gardens) spans an entire long block on the main street in Mission Hills.

Here's another big one - I checked it's 1/3 acre 5000 sq feet with pool and $5 million. Last time it sold the house was mustard color. I like the white and blue shutters. The front door is around the corner but not visible to my camera.

After you come around the block from the white & blue house, you see this rare (for San Diego) red brick structure.
The front door is 1/2 flight up from the garages, and  it's about 100 yards walking to get around the whole place.

The main house seems to be about 3-4 stories high.

as you can see from this angle.

Across the road is this long green house - I could only get half its length in one photo. Reminds me of England. I liked the second tier of windows which I don't think I've seen on a house like this before. You know,  I'm sure when built, it was white ... in fact when I checked with a Street View, it was white so it must have been painted green very recently.

Time for Part 2. Please join us.

PS - if you know how to use Google Maps Street View, take a look for yourself. It's at 32.75618° N, 117.17284° W
