Long Leggers and Low Riders
We went shopping for cushions today - those annoying little fellas that occupy the couches, chairs and beds of houses decorated by women.
(Men generally don’t understand their purpose; see video at the end of this post). However in this case we wanted to create a headboard/backrest so there was a “larger” purpose in mind.
Coming out of the warehouse, we walked over to a fence where I had spotted some white birds, and water.

Much to our surprise there was a creek running alongside the parking lot (see below). This in the midst of businesses, school, the odd house or two, and some newer apartments.

This was a surprise because we were east of I-5 freeway, in the middle of National City.
The creek empties into the nature reserve and marshland to our south and west. From there it merges with the Sweetwater River and flows into the bay.
We have walked there several times before, but didn’t know of Paradise Creek running through the city.
Here’s a higher look from the satellite view:
It looked promising, so we got in the car, crossed around and back over to the west side to investigate.

There’s a nice observation sidewalk which was clearly put in place to facilitate bird watching at higher tide levels than we had this morning.

A couple cherry Chevrolet low-riders chose that time to meet in the cushion warehouse parking lot! Drat those fences. We were now on the West side and they were in the way of my photos again!

Despite their beautiful paint and throaty rumbles, the guy checking his phone never looked up.

The drivers chatted for a couple minutes then drove off the way they came in.

Back to our birds. This was the largest of the bunch.

Local birds need our help as much as the migratory ones do, but we didn’t see any signs for them. Are migratory birds prioritized over the locals? Are the birds political? Oops. Lost my mind there for a moment.
The young-uns didn’t mind the signs or us, they were having lunch.
Here’s the Grand Seiko for today.
Thanks for reading.

Some (only some) of our many cushions! The white one is today’s one square meter cushion, now the search is on for the proper cover. 🤦
