Down and out by the river

We didn't want to fight freeway traffic this morning, so we took surface streets down to the river and walked a bit. I suspected it might be slightly unfriendly where we were going, and that turned out to be true. Here's what we found... sign knocked down - did they miss the on-ramp corner, or just resent the carpool HOV lane getting some priority?

A woman sleeping under the bridge on the concrete. We have seen her often at intersections near the river and wondered where she stays.
On our way back she was awake and we said good morning, but she didn't speak to us.

A heavy cloud layer made it much darker here than at our house. It's a very low tide.

The gloom did not stop a set of 4 ducks from having breakfast.

I had to switch cameras to get a close-up of a gruesome spider, and my wife took a wrist shot (without authorization).

Here's the monster

and another.

And a third.

The authorized WPS Zenith wrist-shot at 7:00:11 1/2

Tired of spiders, I look for birds. There are almost none to be found. The tide is completely slack, perhaps this isn't a good time for fishing. But wait, here's an interesting character.

It's a "cowlick" on a person; what is a single stray feather called on a bird?

A peleton races by, headed East. They scare me half to death because I am not aware they are coming (focused on the bird & river)

A tree by the river is laden with fruit. Olive Oil, anyone?

Another spider! Time for home.

A suffering runner then shuffles past us, followed by a gent pushing his worldly possessions in a wheelchair. They are headed West.

A girl on her way to work whizzes by Eastbound. Having worked in a bicycle shop for years, I can see that her chain is too long.

A tiny patch of beauty amidst the dross.

We have to make a decision, and We turn South.

I caught a glimpse of the market where we used to come for wine tastings. I'm two blocks away when taking the photo, and don't see the gent in the wheelchair until I get home and put this photo on the desktop.

Beneath the window of a cigar shop we find a prolific tomato plant!  With these (in a few weeks) and some olive oil, we could make spaghetti sauce...

Ooh, I need your love babe, Guess you know it's true. Hope you need my love babe, Just like I need you

Hold me, love me, Hold me, love me. I ain't got nothin' but love babe, Eight days a week (Lennon & McCartney 1964)

We arrive back home and I begin to prepare this post, with a fruit snack to give me energy.

When my wife calls me. Outside! Now! Our friendly owl is back after an absence of about 8-9 months.

He opens one eye to wink at me, then closes it again.

A multi-color jet soars overhead; maybe the Microsoft computer glitch is fixed? and we can all get on with our travels again!

Thanks for reading.
