Congrats...you won't look back at Windows Mobile devices..
Rock solid platform, push mail, BlackBerry Messenger and fantastic battery life are among the many things that have me converted.
As for the ringer volume on Verizon's 8830, it's a bit soft for my ears so I've held off on the upgrade myself and still toting the workhorse 8703e. You might try downloading some louder ring tones to see if that helps. Just search the net for some amplified ringtones. Also, I understand Verizon had a new software update on the 8830 that was supposed to address the ringer issue...although I've read conflicting reports on how well the fix works.
