Seiko SQ Surprise on the Hillside

As I walked into the dining room this morning, I saw an unusual color through the leaded glass. That hints at a beautiful sunrise!

Moving through into the breakfast room, I saw it. No time to drive anywhere; we will enjoy this one as it comes. I have learned you grab the camera and get some photos while you can. Driving for a better view usually means missing the nice one I have here.

NOTE: Our house was built about 70 years ago by a Portuguese family who had several fishing boats. After we bought the house I talked to the son of the architect who did the design. He said the families in our community always asked for a sunrise view, and they'd insist on having the kitchen at the east end of the house.

I guess that's not so likely to happen nowadays, with all the other constraints, fewer open lots, and rising at dawn not being a first priority among the young ... but as an early riser, I appreciate it.

Forget "through the glass" I walked outside for a sharper view.

Since I was waiving the "away game" today I set out for our canyon wilderness. Even in the dim light the bougainvillea were striking

and these plants were spiking. Lots of the native plants seem unfriendly (they didn't want to be eaten).

There are some soft and fuzzy ones, which don't look like they would taste very nice.

I was noticing the slight pink tone on these (formerly) white flowers. Did it come from the sky's tint?

When I heard a scuffling behind me. I jumped. He jumped. I got a picture and he headed west at high speed.

He ran right under the fence without seeming to miss a beat. There must be a gap under it...

I checked the time

and took a couple more pictures.

While focusing on the spikes, I saw him again

About 8 feet away, right below me. He's come back!

Then he ran. And stopped, dug a bit and looked up at me.

I tried to follow with the camera but as you can see, he's half-way into another dimension -- the camera could see right through him! He disappeared, for good.

Maybe it was a dream?

I don't know.

Aloe I can say is Have a nice day.
