I think perhaps you should send it to me for a year's inspection ...

I haven't worn mine for a couple months, so pulled it out of the closet to check.

It needed 11 turns of the crown (see power indicator) before it started.

Perhaps you can keep wearing it for awhile and then give it a rest and check again. The Spring Drives are not THAT old, nor do they use archaic oils at Seiko that would be drying out.

That's just my opinion, of course, but I have had more than a dozen Spring Drives, starting 11 years ago with SBGA001

and also some early non-GS Spring Drives.

I suspect the starting torque required for each watch is not just the escapement issue, but all the gears and jewels throughout the watch resisting the barely-wound mainspring's torque.
Many of my other GS watches need a gentle rotation to get started.

Question for owners of watches with 5R77 spring drive movement

 By: jrc693 : March 21st, 2016-01:46
Hi all! Just wanted to ask, When my Credor (5R77 movement) runs out of juice, and I begin winding it, it does not begin until I give it a gentle nudge or very lightly shake the movement. Is this typical of this movement? As it is an earlier spring drive m...

Isn't that normal for many mechanical movements?

i might be totally wrong as I don't now Credor. However, from time to time various movements I know of would require a gentle impulse. I'm sure there is some technical explanation behind it with frictions values of a moving item are lower than the force n...

In theory no;

As this is a spring drive, there is no physical escapement. The rate of mainspring unwinding is controlled by electromagnetic braking of a fast rotating disc. As a blind guess (I'm no watchmaker), the lubrication of the fast rotating gears may be drying u...

Thanks skyeriding

Let me dig a bit deeper into the function principle of a springdrive. Your short explanation attracted my attention. BR, kolosstt

Not needed

On my SD the second hands starts itself once the main spring has been wound a bit... Never had to \'kick start\' any of my SD calibers. Good luck!

I think perhaps you should send it to me for a year's inspection ...

Thanks for the reply all!

Thanks for the reply everyone! Just wanted to check, i've decided to leave it off my wrist for 3 days :'( to give it a check and see what happens when I wind it. It was serviced recently so I don't think it would be an oiling issue. Thanks all!

Same here!

Hello JRC, my 5R77 has the same behavior: winding with the crown alone is usually not enough to make it run. Like if the rotor was giving the small flick to release the accumulated energy. But as Mike says, if you perform some "heavy winding" with the cro...

Hi Damster!

Hi Damster! Thanks for your reply. How did you know that your watch is no 14? Also do you have any info surrounding how many GCLL999's were in production? I would love to find out! Thanks!

That is an excellent question!

 By: Damster : March 24th, 2016-06:59
The GCLL999 model was available for sale in Japan between 2006 and 2009. When I asked the Credor customer service how many of these were produced in total, they told me this information was confidential. The charm of JDMs and associated mysteries... One m...

Thank you!

Thank you for all the info Damster! Thats interesting, I didnt know they were produced in 2009, I thought mine was produced in 2007 (my watch is the 650059) I much prefer the rotor with the engraving. Thank you Damster!

Thank you too! Looks like my theory is crumbling...

...Still, your 65 is below 99; from raw guess and personal experience with the amount of models available for sale (like half a dozen in 3 years), a total production number around 100 would fit. Any insider would be welcome at this point! PS: one of these...

I'm not sure what to contribute, other than more watch numbers

Which may contradict your theory of production dates. I purchased mine from a friend in SFO in friend in Fall 2006, so presumably it had been "in the field" for a month or two at least before I got it. The number is 650003 and the rotor is beautifully eng...
