Rolex

I recently purchased a 1655 with registered design written on it, and has a serial number beggining with 7821, I just wanted to ask the gurus if this coincides? Because I remember hearing Rolex stopped using Registered Desing in the early 80's and with the serial number, it seems to be 83', it's it's kind of cutting it down to the wire.
