Is 168000 the first sub that the case is make in 904L? Thanks..........

Here is what Rolex reply with when they got the question from Mr Kristian Haagen. "The reason for the extra zero in the model number was to indicate the new type of metal treatment. The "normal" 16800 was type 316L, the 16610 is 904L. So, basically these ... 

I just bought a 168000,the middle case is 168000 & case back is 16800...is it ok? The series number is 96394XX. Is there any way to see whether is 316 or 904? thanks...... Heng.

The 168000 backcase is stamped 16800 because Rolex dosen't bother to give it a extra 0. All 168000 is made in 904L steel. You can't see if the steal is 904L with a naked eye, if you can so will you have a great future in the metal industry. Jocke

X-Ray defraction will tell you if it's one type of steel or another. I do it all the time for collectors.
