What the heck is this about?
RICHARD MILLE IN COURT
The famous watch brand and winner of "L'Aiguille d'Or" at the last Geneva Watch Grand Prix, will have to defend itself in court through its company, Horométrie S.A.. So far Horométrie S.A. has neither honoured nor respected its consultant contract bound and signed with Daniel Montandon for the creation and development of Richard Mille's Marine collection and concept. In addition Horométrie S.A. decided abruptly, unilaterally and with immediate effect to terminate its consulting contract, together with all other existing distribution contracts held with Daniel Montandon.
Emboldened by the success of his watches with characteristics drawn from the motor racing world, willing to diversify his range, Richard Mille took in 2005 the advice of his friend Daniel Montandon to develop a new watch collection inspired by the Marine world. Daniel Montandon had since the launch of the brand, greatly contributed to its success as a distributor for the Eastern European countries, Spain and Portugal. With more than twenty years of experience, great recognition and excellent reputation in the watch industry and being a Naval Architect himself, Daniel Montandon was chosen to be the right man for the job. Thanks to his close contacts to the "luxurious yachting" circles, especially his friendship to Perini Navi, Daniel Montandon was able to obtain quickly the rights from Perini Navi for Richard Mille to become the official sponsor of the most prestigious and exclusive regatta in the world – the "Perini Navi Cup".
In order to create this new "Marine" line, Daniel Montandon invented the "Richard Mille - Seven Seas Racing Class" concept. From the characteristics of the Perini yachts he took his inspiration to guide and advise Richard Mille for the design of the first two models, the RM014 and RM015 (one of many examples are the yachts teak deck lines which are reproduced on the watch bezels of this new collection).
At the same time and in accordance with his contract, Daniel Montandon imagined a line of 8 new and original models. Integrating innovative horological functions and complications, relating to "Sailing the seven Seas", it completes this new "Marine World" collection. In close cooperation with Richard Mille and the movement manufacturer Renaud & Papi, Daniel Montandon already worked on developing the first of his future models bearing the reference RM017. Its extraordinary characteristics will be unveiled by Richard Mille himself at a later time.
While the success of Richard Mille's new collection is quite considerable in terms of Sales, Fame and Image, Horométrie S.A. has never paid to Mr. Montandon any of his royalties due, as instructed and specified in the contract.
Moreover, Richard Mille, through his company Horométrie S.A., decided abruptly, unilaterally and with immediate effect to cancel all contracts with Mr. Daniel Montandon. Having suddenly lost these contracts without any financial compensation, Mr. Montandon has been forced to send an official payment order short of 23 Million Swiss Francs to Horométrie S.A. and to proceed with legal actions to defend his rights.
Consequently, this matter will be judged by the appropriate authorities.
