I’m a RM wonk who has owned the 002 V2 (twice) the 003 V1, the 004 V2 ti and numerous 005’s and 010’s.  That said, I just agreed to trade my 002 for another 004 in wg.

Experientially, I prefer the V1’s esthetics when used in the 003, where the dial is already busy with the large second time zone function.  On the 002 I prefer the black/gray hue to the flat PVD look of the V1.  I can’t speak to the advantage of the carbon nanofiber base -plate over aluminum.  But it does look cool J .

Mechanically, my 003 V1 preformed similarly to my 002 V2’s. 

One challenge that RM pieces have from my perspective is that they speak to the future and a rapid velocity of change.  Indy car racing with FM, smash ball tennis with Nadal.  It’s all about pushing the limits.  The G- forces, the boundaries of exotic materials, both natural and man-made, all integrated into a contrast of complexity and simplicity.  In that regard, and with the ever-changing machinations, how does one piece have the opportunity to become a classic?

Conversely, RM offers numerous choices, giving its owners wide selection in the “look” that they desire, while at the same time maintaining the integrity of amazing futuristic engineering.  What other manufacturer offers this level of personal choice on their pieces at the upper five and 6 figure price point?

Yet, still, I abandon the humility and selflessness that I otherwise pretend to profess, and continue to pursue the brand without abandon.  And we do this Bernard, as RM fans, we pursue the impossibility that exudes from each new RM, the true secret of RM’s sales; the promise of eternal youth…

Which brings me back to your question about V1 vs. V2…  but by now you already know the answer J .
