The FD lenses are sleepers--very inexpensive (the only one I paid more than $100 for is the 80-200L/4, which is basically the MF version of the current 70-200L/4, maybe better, and certainly the class of its competition at the time), and very very good. Certainly good enough for my limited skill set.
There is a little bit of PP work in LR--some adjustment of contrast and blacks, whites, and highlights. I'm learning to shoot digital slightly under exposed so as not to blow highlights, but the Sony is much better than my Canon was about this already. The colors are as rendered, though the whites are reduced (insects reflect light in amazing ways--so do flowers). The macros are also often cropped, sometimes to 100%+, which should give some indication of the incredible quality of the 80-200L--previously I couldn't do these kinds of pictures because it was impossible to hold the camera and lens steady, but the IBIS in the Sony works exactly as it should to counter that issue.
I agree with you on some of the B&W photos. I'll keep playing with them, but there's only so much you can do with the available light before the picture becomes "unreal". But it's certainly something to work on in PP.
Thanks for the compliments. I'm no pro or seasoned professional, but I think my eye is improving, and it's fun to have a new camera body that responds so incredibly well.
Cheers,
Daniel
