Patek Philippe

Gentlemen, I could handle the Patek Philippe 5200G White Dial recently and thought I could share with you my first thoughts about this quite recent version. It is a 32.4 x 46.9 mm Gondolo case housing a 8 days PR square caliber (28-20 with the Spiromax sp...  

I would love a square Patek just for this gorgeous square movement (a bit of a change from the norm here) but the sizes of the square ones are a bit big for my wrist. Regarding the 5200s, well I find the dial too crowded for my taste – that said I remembe... 

It seems we are having the same appeal from these particular models... I guess indeed the fact that it brings something new is a part of the charm. I don't have a big wrist either and the size of a rectangular watch was also an issue for me. If I remember... 

I think 5124G is nicer. It is slimmer, more sober and much more affordable. Oh, I have ordered the blue 5124... Best Kari

Dial gets a little busy but a very nice piece indeed. Odd thing to notice but the scales on the strap don't line up very nicely, like it wasn't belly scales but a cheaper part of the hide.

Since Patrick and Dave posted several pictures of this 5124, I'm really looking forward to see it in the metal. And I really understand your choice as even the movement looks very nice, congratulations Kari :) Cheers, Mark

I do think that Patek makes the most beautiful shaped watches of anyone. Their proportionality, to me, seems always just right. I have owned a couple and, of course, every time I see one like this on a Forum or website, I wish to add a new piece; or get b... 

In that classical watches field there aren't many interesting competitors (even if I like Vacheron new Malte models and American 1921!). Concerning your 2nd thought I think I would think otherwise. It goes very well with a suit but I really think it would... 

Of course, if you prove right, I will be heartbroken for letting my Gondolos leave me!

Just a little too big for the wrist. My opinion. If only patek can make it a fraction smaller it would look better. To all those would be patek owners , buy what sings to your heart. Thanks for sharing the pics mark. Cheers! Geross

What you say about what sings to one's heart is perfectly true. I would maybe take 1 or 2 mm off but I must say the size didn't strike me when I tried it on. I think I should have a second look when I can :) Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Cheers, Mark

I looked at the 5200 but it really is too big for my wrist and yours as well. I went with the 5124j with no regrets. I love the rectangles.

wearing a Gondolo! It looks quite different from the blue dial one (maybe more dressy an dclassical) but it is as beautiful to me. Do you have a little picture or a wristshot maybe? Wear it well :) Cheers, Mark

May be too big, but I feel the elements hang together well here. I think the day and the date are a success, and I love the shape of the hands. By the way, Mark, your photos are better than the photos I saw from PP and other places.

The case may look a little to long and may not fit to everyone's wrist indeed. I follow your opinion as I also think the overall aspect of the watch seems nicely coherent. It is a nice offer for someone who is really looking for a shaped watch of this kin... 

I enjoyed all the opinions. But in the end this is the one I love best ...

What I find with this piece is that you get the poor man's 5070 blue dial color, and the applied numbers. A very balanced dial and case. The movement is just a beautiful form movement. Convenience of 10 days, the unique design of this case, splash of that... 

I indeed saw quite many square movements but was usually disappointed. This reference is balanced and to the level is claimed after. Cheers, Mark

Do you think the blue in 5070 is so much better? I think your 5100G is about as perfect as it gets. Best, Kari

i have had mine side by side with 5070. Very close. And a whole lot of money saved too. I love this 5100g blue color.

With made-to-measurement straps and a WG folding clasp. This new 5100 is very slim, readable and even dressy. It is a wonderful watch. I had it on my wrist on Saturday and it was difficult to give it back. But soon I'll get mine. Before that are just 2-3 ... 

5100G is a killer, I just love it, specially in G version with htis wonderful blue dial. Absolutely wonderful! Wear it in the very best of life, and enjoy this beauty a lot ;-) Best, Mike

This dial reminds me of a rectangle version of the 5960/1A, which I happen to adore. I would love to try this one on and see what the fit is like. Your photos definitely show it off well. Thanks for this!

The colors choice are very similar to the 5960/A: darkened metal, white dial, red dots here and there... I love the 5960/A (excepet the bracelet) so I understand your appeal for this reference, I hope you cn manage to try one. Thanks for chimming in Dylan... 

I was actually able to try one on a few days ago at the preview for Christies Wednesday sale. And ohhhhhh did it feel good haha! Here it is! Oh...and one of real, true dream watches. Obviously a 1518, the one that started it all. ...  

The 5960/A looks very well on your wrist Dylan :) A sporty and yet very well finished watch. Definitely something to consider. Cheers, Mark
