Patek Philippe

With all the excitement of the 5550p and 5208p, a nostalgic look at 2 giants

Patek and complications, strawberries and cream...yep they just go so well together.. smile

Patek were the first to make a perpetual calendar wristwatch, the first for the serial production of perp.cal chrono... and we have seen the lastest generation of that line in the 5270g.

Minute repeaters are a forte for Patek, and the combination of minute repeater and other complications whilst may appear to be a new novelty actually has its roots from the early history of Patek.

Perhaps the most important wristwatch of all time? A platinum minute repeater with perpetual calendar...

watch no. 198 340 It sold in 1996 for over 2 million Swiss Francs, if it came for sale today, it would blow away all records, infact this piece is price less.

Some say it was the sale of this watch in 1981 for the then amazing sum of SFr 185,000 that triggered the watch collecting phenomenon. Just to put the price in perspective, a 2499 was worth about 15-20,000SFr. in those days.

It was made in 1939 and the perpetual calendar is displayed in "triple calendar" fashion, so here it is ,

more recently Patek  the minute repeater with perpetual calendar and chronograph in the ref.3615 made in 1986.

Another priceless giant from Patek, and the fore runner to the 5208p, enjoy
