Watch Shopping Yesterday...
...In San Francisco. We hit Patek and Lange, but the Rolex reservation was wonky so we will go back soon.
A couple of observations. Our 'Ambassador' at Patek was Jay. Very nice guy who knows his stuff and loves watches. He was wearing a vintage mono-push chronograph (not a Patek).
I tried on quite a few for size and the Cubitus ref. 5821 at 45mm, while not my favorite, fits fine on my 7.25-inch wrist. The smaller ref. 7128 seemed a bit small.
The ref. 6119 is a lovely watch and very thin, but maybe a bit formal with the dark dial.
The ref. 7200 is aimed at women but could work for men with smaller wrists with a strap change. If I was buying a special watch for a woman it would be high on the list.
The two I would take home are the ref. 6159G (retrograde PC) and the ref. 5270J with the light dial. The platinum version with the green dial was nice, but I fear I would tire of the bright color. But the 5270 prices are out of control, let alone getting an allocation...insane. If I had a couple of hundred grand burning a hole in my pocket, the 5270J would be the one.
Nash at Lange does a great job as well. I found that the Datograph is quite comfortable (my friend has his eye on it) and the Lange 1 Moon phase has a very cool moon phase 'complication' with the changing sky.
Ended with Manhattans and Martinis at Tadich grill (ask for Tall Brian for your waiter...very fun guy). Overall a great day in The City...
