very annoying
this is a very annoying topic for those of us who are collectors. I certainly don't have any solutions for solving this problem. However, boutique vineyards in California setup a list that offers their limited wines to their most most loyal customers first. Sometimes those customers drop off the list and new ones get on, etc. PP could try that and this may be one of the better ways of allocating limited supply to the end buyer.
I will tell you that I have wanted to buy a 5070p since they first came out in 2008. Recently, a watch broker told me that he had a 5070p (at a premium) and a 5970p sitting at an AD waiting for him. The broker did not want to pay for them first without having a buyer. So this AD is accommodating the grey market, while a buyer like myself is shut out unless I pay a premium. There are at least a dozen 5070p on the market today, sealed, being flipped at a premium. This leads me to the conclusion that some AD's are aiding and abetting the grey market. A solution is to penalize those AD's.

I totally agree with tic-toc. Just imagine (very hard to imagine) I don't like my 5970P no more in the future as I do today and I want to sell it: Will I sell it for listprice to be be a good guy? I'm sure, you would call me a stupid guy! But anyway, who ...

I actually don't agree with you. As much as i am a proponent of the free market, I am not a proponent of market fixing or artificial prices. If there is a monopoly supplier (as in the case of Patek) and this monopoly supplier restricts supply, and that su...
