The only black dial 5980 is the /1R version (rose gold with bracelet) and *officially* its color is "black gradient" like for the 5990/1A, if this is your question.
So it would always be best to compare in person, however the 5980/1R dial definitely looks darker to me than the 5990, which is more of a greyish color. Otherwise the two watches are obviously totally different. Cheers.

Hi, does anyone know if the black dial Patek 5980 has the same color as the dial of 5990? I am in the process of deciding between 5980 blue and black dial. I know the look of the blue dial and I have 5990. I am wondering if the 5980 black dial is the same...

Thanks guys. I got the 5980/1a blue. The black dial does indeeds look black and darker than 5990z
I’m a bit late to this, but
I have the 5990, and had the 5980. I’d say the dials are the same. The 5980 may appear darker, as much of the dial is taken with the bulls eye and you don’t see the gradient as much on the 5990.
