I would have to lean towards the newer 5205, I liked the piece from the second that I saw the first photos.
Like one of the previous answers, I was also able to try it on, and I found that it was so easy to read, and at 40mm it's quite a presence as well as siting quite high up off your wrist.
I also prefer now, to read the date, day, & month by way of the apertures.
Though I suspect as the 5146 is already a Patek Philippe classic, this will remain a firm favourite.
5146 G Slate Grey vs 5205 Black?
Just curious what other peoples opinions were on these 2 pieces? My wife likes the 5205 better, but I can't get the 5146 G Slate Grey out of my head. Which do you guys think will feel more timeless in a decade and which speaks to you more? For some reason...
I had the 5205 on my wrist recently. Both dials.
I still prefer the 5146. For me, it has a more sultry, energized aesthetic. Hope that helps.

I definitely understand how the 5205 could be more readable, It is just a gut feeling when I see them next to each other. The 5205 looks fresher and cooler, but looks like in 5 years I will be tired of looking at it. The 5146 looks like it will always loo...
I think that you have already made the decision........

5146g Slate between those 2
I have a 5135g Slate and prefer it to the new one. I really like the luminous hands of the 5146 models, so I don't see how anyone can say its not easy to see? I don't like the white second hand of the new calender either.
I have to agree with the majority here..
and also choose the 5146G slate grey. IMO it's the quintessential annual calender from Patek and a classic.

I think the 5146 has a classic look and the feel on the wrist is amazing. I own the 5146P and it is by far my favorite watch.
5205 for me without any doubt.
I much prefer the layout of the dial of the 5205. I find the one of the 5146 too busy. I prefer the windows system to the hands one. Fr.Xavier...
