Second mail bomb attack against Patek Philippe employee, three months after first.
Nov 27, 2024,19:23 PM
On Monday a 12-year-old girl was severely injured by a mail bomb addressed to her father, a Patek Philippe employee. The bomb was concealed in a milk carton. She is out of surgery (which lasted 6 hours) and as far as I know, will survive (1). Another employee was injured back in August when a bomb left in a garbage bag outside his door exploded. He also survived, but his leg was badly damaged (2). Both employees were in technical roles, working with movements (3). The bombings are being investigated by the Swiss AG’s office, which has jurisdiction over federal crimes.
Patek Philippe has reportedly received mail bombs in the past, along with threats of direct attacks on employees (4). Le Temps and 20Min allude to the events of 2021--a sensitive topic I won't discuss here. The image is from source one, showing the lobby of the apparent building after the explosion. The company sent a memo to employees the following day, saying that “mesures de renforcement” were being taken at Plan-les-Outes, and told employees to keep their heads down (3). The sixteen hundred employees at Plan-les-Outes seem to know no more than we do, 20Mins talked to several who felt shocked, but not scared. (5)
