Patek Philippe 5070J, a picture which tells a lot about its charm.

Jul 14, 2016,00:20 AM

Let's be clear, I am not a colored gold fan, and I will not probably be.

But sometimes, there are watches which make you doubt.

This 5070J, recently auctioned by Antiquorum, shows all its powerful charm.

Vintage collectors will certainly call that a gilt dial.

The combination of gilt writings + black dial and yellow gold is very vintage looking, deliciously vintage.

It is, in my opinion, the most surprising 5070 version, more " retro " than any other 5070.

Best,

Nicolas

I always considered the combination of yellow or rose gold with a black dial appropriate primarily for pimps, rappers, and international soccer players, but pp indeed managed to render this slightly 'precarious' combination tasteful.

I agree fully !

Very nice pic but the watch itself is stunning. Same combo as for the Datograph which btw is also very nice in this version, but the 5070 has a more vintage look and it is extremely charming ! It certainly deserves to be tried in flesh and in metal! I'm s...

I used not to like this so much

i think the rose or white gold 5070s were nicer But now you show me this pic..... You Vlad you.... It's extremely charming indeed! Never thought i would like yellow gold so much Cheers Robin

Yellow Gold with a black dial is very "Retro".

Especially with chronographs I think it is a winner. But it can look "expensive" and that can be toned down with a brown strap instead of black. I think it then looks a bit more sporty without losing its elegance. This Patek is a beauty.

Brown calf strap would be a nice combination, indeed.

Less precious, more " cool ". Like that a lot. Best, my friend. Nicolas

these 4 variations.......

 By: Baron - Mr Red : July 14th, 2016-03:50
.......all so different. The WG is, for me, the most conservative of the four. It is the most discrete. I could see myself wearing this for business. The YG is, for me, the most extroverted. It is a watch that calls to be seen....I could not wear it casua...

more on this reference than most....

....but I think the 5070P and 5070G can be paired more easily......the 5070J and 5070Y also paired more easily

What's not to like? [nt]

Hi Nicolas, IMO the color combination makes this reference ...

"powerful" (especially the black dial) and renders a look that says it is a very "expensive" (not that it is not) Cheers, Gordon

I saw the same picture indeed not long ago

and thought this was the best from the 5070J. I'll prefer the 3 others but it looks gorgeous here, in that setup. Excellent idea to post it, thanks! Cheers, Mark

I found a perfect 5070J

and really wanted to go for that. Luckily in the end I came into my senses and understood that "I can't afford owning them all". Anyhow, J with black dial is a wonderful version. Best, Kari

I believe that.

But there must be limits. I wanted to get one "full set" and I considered both 5070 and 5110. The price difference (I had both in P) was in the region of € 160k - enough to educate one child. So I went for 5110 and no regrets. Dreaming does not cost anyth...

The 5070 series are very varied

I think the g or p are still the most elegant I passed on the j as it is a bit "loud" Now I am think of passing on the g and looking up the food chain thanks to a certain English collector. Julian

No worse......
