Let me respond to your question based on an
experience one of my clients had with his 3970 and maybe that will give some insight.
He wore the watch with the chrono running constantly because he preferred to see the centered sweep moving like in his other non-chrono watches, then the watch stopped. Called me, I then called the office and found that the watch stopping was as a result of having the chrono running constantly. He stpped the chrono, reset it and all was well going forward.
I believe these movements are built to perform but not outside their intended uses and periodic daily use as you have described should not be a problem.
