J vs R metals, 5146 new vs old variant
Looking at 5146J and 5146R - was only able to see R in person and it was the new variant. This screenshot from a YouTube video of a J - which is the old variant with a metallic moon phase and slower beating movement - from a looks perspective seems to make:
1.) the dial on the J look a lot whiter than the R
2.) the “shiny-ness” of the watch look a lot shinier in the J - hands, indices and case
Not sure which of these 3 things it could be:
1.) lighting
2.) new vs old variant
3.) R vs J metal characteristics
Anyone have any more knowledge?
Trying to decide between the two. I think:
1.) R looks better on my skin tone
2.) I like shiny - metallic moon of old variant and the yellow gold would maybe satisfy this? But yellow goes against #1 above
3.) I like the darker cream dial - maybe R for this based on the video image
4.) I like the slower beat of the old variant

Circumstances in those two pictures are very different. Personally, I favor the Rose Gold version. However, I must admit that I have been going through a “Rose Gold Appreciation” phase as of late. Very nice watch no matter what.

A super helpful response; really appreciate the thoughts. Most surprising was to hear that the J stands out on a brown strap compared to the R. Any color on why? A more “white” metal in the R makes it pop in general? Or maybe the starker contrast that exi...

Theoretically speaking, It feels like the Rose gold is visually close to brown, so there's not enough contrast compared to yellow gold. which is why that was my impression. Going back to Fabrizio's comment, best thing to do is to go to PP and try them bot...
