because I heard some unfortunate stories with (specific ones, not in general) ADs involved before. I won´t go in too much detail here, because it won´t be helpfull for you anyway.

I would not accept a strap like this from my AD and I would expect them to solve the problem. It is their problem and it should be treated like this. They have to deal with it and they have to offer an appropriate solution for you as their customer. If they got it like this (from whatever source?!), it was a huge mistake (to say the least) to deliver it to you.
