First of all, who
said that I do not have 5170? Secondly, I have already reserved 5170P...
Am I joking or not? Who knows...
I think taking into account that 5905P is a Patek Philippe, it represents exceptional value. It's a relatively sophisticated chronograph plus also an useful annual calendar. In fact a clever combination. It was very difficult to decide between 5960P and 5905P and my solution was to get 5960/1A, equip it with strap plus get the more conservative design, 5905P in platinum. I was surprised about 5905 when I tried it but I felt my wrist can handle the size of the watch.
At the same time I love 5170. In many ways it is a much more sophisticated watch than 5070. At the same time, 5170 lacks some of the charm of 5070 and I hope that in the platinum version Patek would use some of their design elements in the case of the coming 5170P. I mean perhaps something from the case of 5575 or 5975, perhaps something from the design of the lugs of 5905...
All in all, 5170 is a fantastic watch. It is only a bit clinical but if the coming versions are spiced with some small elements adding some charm to the case, then the Future Generations will be crazy about this reference. Just like many of us are crazy about i.e. 5070P.
