do not account for leap year and need to be changed manually. Perpetual Calendars will change "continually" or without interruption, hence the name/meaning, perpetual.

leap year changes require a perpetual calandar
The 3940 or more advance PP models will make the leap-year change as will any other perpetual calandar. Annual calandar watches require a manual change at the end of February cheers benio

It skips the 31 date before midnight, moves to 1, then moves the month indicator to MAR.
