5960 has been one of my top listed...

Since it came out. My favorite is still the pt with grey. I think it has everything going for it. Size, a good modern design, functionality, and automatic for daily wear. IMO its only problem is, that it feels too top heavy on the wrist for my taste. Ive tried it on many times and somehow , it feels off balance to me.

The 5170 really surprised me a lot. When I saw the pictures, I thought it was too boring. Too straight a case design and I didnt like the fond on the dial. Then I saw it in a window last weekend, and I thought, yes, boring! But my interest was caught and I went in to try it on. WOW, it changed it for me. On the wrist it works extremely well and I would takenthis watch over the 5070 any day ( okay, not the 5070 P ;-) ) a much more balanced design and it sits extremely well and balanced on the wrist. What I also liked a lot was, that the watch i quite descreet. When you see it on the wrist, from a few meters, you dont notice the chrono registres so much, so it doesnt scream " flashy cronograph"! It is top chronograph that is also a bit stealthy. That really charmed me, a lot. On the wrist, its a super watch.

I wish I had your problem;-) to me its certainly no longer an easy choice!

When it comes to expensive Chronos, are you more fan of manual or Auto movements?

In general, in this exclusive category, I prefer manual movements. But I would make an exception, here, as I much prefer the 5960 P to the 5170 J. But it is just the reflect of my personal taste. Not necessarily yours. Best, Nicolas

and I would take any day 5170J rather than 5960P. The movement in 5170 is simply stunning, the watch is of right size and it is slim enough. I will buy it when it is available in white metal. However, the J-version is not bad at all. Best, Kari

Personally, I love the 5960P (original dial) it has everything & more that I would require in a daily wear atch. This was also the first in-house chrono movement that Patek designed. I would buy one tomorrow, given the opportunity :) Regards Tony

thx for the insight. i LOVE the new 5960r with black dial. think it is absolutely stunning. hard to compare a J with white/silver dial to an R with black. i own 5146J and 5980R so im very torn as to what to do. maybe trade 5146J and royal oak chrono in YG...
