im thinking about these two watches and wanted to solicit your impressions. I have only seen the 5396g in the metal ( out of the two) Based on photos I like the 36mm size as well as the 38mm size. Obviously not a right or wrong answer. But wanted your hel... 

I would, without a doubt, go for the 3940. I like the 5396, except for the 24-hour indicator which seems overkill for the purpose (either make it the date and lose the date window, or a second time zone). The 3940 is a classic.

Not a fan of the AC style of 5396. The PC’s layout on the hand is classic PP. 👍

The 3940 is a timeless classic. It is the penultimate Patek. That is my recommendation.
