I am interested in learning whether or not you would recommend Patek to service a vintage piece or whether you would have a trusted watchmaker handle it? In fact, this would be the first time I will be sending a watch in for service and really do not know what to ask for or what to expect.
In my case I own a well-used but still accurate 2457. It now appears to be in need of a good cleaning and serious dial work.
If I bring it into Patek what do they do, and where do they do it? Do they do a general assessment of what the watch needs in NYC and give me an estimate or do they simply do the specific work I request? Would Patek even have a new dial for this watch (if not how else does someone obtain a new dial)? Also, will Patek (or any reputable service center) ever "swap-out" a good part from my watch to place in a preferred customer's watch, and replace mine with a less desirable part, or is that sort of thing simply never done?
What do you do with your vintage Pateks when they need service?
Many thanks in advance.
