324SC movement

 By: fleekk : September 26th, 2017-03:02
Hi to all, Probably this has been discuss before, does anyone know why the above movement does not have a second hacking function? Since this is the base movement for so many reference for Patek, I would presume it is a simple basic function to have. Than...

In fact there are a few elements

First, the usual hacking mechanism is a stem stoping quite strongly the balance wheel movement. Knowing how fragile and difficult to set these parts are, it is not the best if used often. Furthermore, knowing that the aim of having a hacking second featur...

The 29-535 and all derivate are hacking, 31-260 REG AQ (rulator annual calendar) and my personal all time favorite movement ...

... the CHR 27-525 PS which is the movement of the 5959 and all derivate. Did I forget one? Best Moritz

Thanks Moritz!

Patek doesn't seem to mention this feature on the existing movement in its website, it's not that easy to get and I always forget which model is equiped with it. I think you gathered most of them. I don't know about the Minute-Repeaters models that usuall...

How cound I forget the 5200G!

Thank you for the reminder. The 5200G was and is a piece that comes and goes into my mind still quite often. Best Moritz

Sorry, Mark, but I really do have to challenge your remark about the balance wheel needing seconds to return to its normal state.

This is sheer fallacy, and one that can be easily proven as such. Set your watch, hacked of course, and return the crown to date or winding position at the time you’re syncing to ( for example), then compare the time 1, 2, or even 5 minutes later. I’ll be...

Well, I'm not a watchmaker

By: Mark in Paris : September 26th, 2017-05:08
and as it is not a feature I need, I didn't dig much into it. When people were asking about it here I discussed with a salesperson I know and who has a watchmaking training. He explained quite frankly how it worked, the upsides and downsides, in general. ...

Thanks guys for the response.....

If it is detrimental to the balance wheel why so many other are doing so, I just wonder. Could it be a case of not necessary to update this very old movement as i find it a very useful feature for timing the watch. But of course, it will not stop me from ...

I find non hacking movements good, actually

By: COUNT DE MONET : September 26th, 2017-04:29
Hacking movements are used in wars by pilots and that is why I do not like pilot's watches. Non hacking movements are fitting the main purpose of a watch of these magnitude better: existing just for the joy of it. Best Moritz

It's a good point, Moritz.

However, if non-hacking then I even prefer to not have a running seconds. That would do just perfectly well and it makes setting time much easier as well. I'm always bothered when the minute hand is not set so it is sync'ed with the seconds hand, i.e. at ...

Same feeling here about a non second hand watches, CC

Whether a time only, perpetual calendar or other complicated watch: always my preference without a second hand.

I am not too sure about that

 By: fleekk : September 27th, 2017-07:34
Will that damage the drive train?
