Scottish Style - 5130p goes out with a bang!

Sep 23, 2016,16:51 PM

Yesterday I had the great pleasure of attending an event at the National Museum of Scotland to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Hamilton and Inches and its long association with Patek Philippe. After Thierry Stern's speech about following the future a very special piece was unveiled in celebration of the famous jeweller. A stunning platinum world timer limited to just 25 pieces. This watch was over 5 years in the making. Thierry spoke with fondness of his relationship with the team at H&I and this was graciously echoed by Stephen Paterson of H&I. In real life it is a really stunning piece and being one of the lucky customers who have been allocated a watch I feel very special indeed.

Of particular interest is the rich purple dial, the replacement of the prime meridian with Edinburgh as opposed to London (the first time this has been done by PP at least), purple stitching on the strap, the accompanying special presentation box made in Scotland and an accompanying pair of Patek cufflinks. Finishing it off is a beautiful scroll produced by the Queen's calligrapher.

I hope you all enjoy the photos.

I can think of a green one with Mecca as a replacement . There was also Beirut and I know of quite a few others.

Part of a very special family indeed

along with its brothers and sisters. Mark posted a great article on the variants at the end of last year showing others including Munich, Shanghai and Jerusalem. But as Thierry Stern pointed out this he thinks is the first time that GMT has been replaced ...

Huge congrats on getting this special purple piece, especially given that ...

Thank you all for your very kind comments. Every time I look at my wrist and see it, I will be reminded of the long relationship I have with my dealer and the wonderful friendships with the staff. To me that is what the watch is all about!

The greatest thing

is the very exceptional colour of the dial. Surely it will be interesting to play with different strap options. Best, Kari

The pictures you took allow us to live the event a little together with you, thanks for taking time to post them. I'm really glad for you and think this is a great version. The interior of the boutique looks so charming by the way. Wear it in the best of ...

Lovely!

But I was quite surprised that Patek has issued this watch without correcting the time zone for Moscow. They have decided to simply use the old 5130 dial but could have corrected the cities since it was substituting Edinburgh for London anyway. Just an ob...

Stunning

Seven years later, and it’s still a great piece.

Thanks for rediscovering this interesting thread and special announcement from the past Patrick, going back at least a couple of Patek moderators before me (and you)!😄

I confess I’ve never had a chance to see this model in person, but I still remember it among the (many!) celebratory Worldtimer editions created over the years! Congrats again to one of Scotland’s historic and most prestigious jewelers on this deserved re...

Indeed, though interestingly (and perhaps expectedly), in both instances this ‘bolder’ chromatic choice has been reserved for limited editions…

I’m sure that after the Tokyo success, many collectors are looking forward to seeing if (or should I announce ‘when’?😄) Ref. 5330 finally makes into the regular catalog, which dial colors will be featured for the standard production models!😄 Cheers. ...

More purple is necessary!

 By: patrick_y : July 6th, 2023-16:57
I've got a few lavender shirts, a lavender sweater, and a deep purple pair of shoes. I definitely wear blue more often. But there ought to be more purple watches!

I can imagine (since it’s always the same!) the chain of events that would follow if Patek ever releases a purple watch in the regular catalog….

First, everybody screaming scandal: “Looks like a fashion watch, this is not boring enough to me!”, “Where’s the Patek I knew 300 years ago?”, “I want my inward angles back!”, and on and on… Second (and simultaneous to the first), everybody calling their ...
