Patek Philippe

Both being at same price levels, which one one should consider buying for collection, retention of value, wearability and rarity. I love both of them but in terms of value the pt watch is a no brainer but investment and rarity the 5070 is the winner. But ... 

5070 - lemania used by whole host of other manufacturers...VC, breguet, RD (cheapest i hear), all relatively cheaper then PP 5960p - modern chrono, annual calender, platinum

Im fortunate enough to own both of these pieces and to be honest I feel that they look feel and wear too different to choose one over the other. The 5070 wears very wide and flat to the wrist while the 5960 wears smaller but has a heavier, thicker case, w... 

on what you already have in your collection and what you'll be adding in the future. And more importantly, at what you look for in your Patek collection. I mean if you already own a 5980, 5070 add diversity, but 5960 completes your PP modern choron collec... 

The reason being that it has the added (and very useful) complication of the annual calendar. And of course if you are not using the 12 hour chronograph for timing it, you can use it as a second timezone. It of course also has the first Patek Philippe in ...

I agree with Hororgasm's assessment and apparent preferences. Don't you have a preference? They are so completely different that I don't think of them in the same category. the 5070 is a nicely oversized old-fashioned/classic chronograph with old-fashione...

To me--the 5960P. I am biased as I own it. I went through the same process in buying it. It has a flyback and annual calendar vs. just a chrono and it is platinum. In fact to me the Lange Platinum Dato is a better watch to compare with the 5070 and it has... 

The fact is you are considering two modern watches, one of which was recently discontinued. The other factors, investment and rarity, you mentioned are questionable at this time, twenty or thirty years from now may more accurately measure those factors. T... 

as both are very different but if I really had to choose, I would go with the 5070. The 5960 is PP's first in-house chrono which is a milestone for them. Don't really care for the "look" of the 5960 unless it is the 5960P. Love that blue sunburst dial. Ve... 

Two very similar watches but different at the same time..... 5960 is the modern face of PP while 5070 has a retro look... 5960 is the first in-house chrono for PP while 5070 is one of the last lemania movements (refinished of course and none left for futu... 

... for both watches: there will always be a perpetual chrono in the production line. People who can afford and are willing to pay for a PP ppc will choose a new one from the AD. Same applies to the 5960. Wearability issue: not really austere watches, und... 

I have a Lemania based Patek chrono (actually perpetual) and the gold-color movement feels/looks much better than the steely 5960 movement which looks and acts like it ought to be buried unseen deep inside a Nautilus case, and manipulated with diving glov... 

While the 5070 is a beautiful piece--the 5960P movement(contrary to the last post) is quite nice and fits the case size perfectly. The 5070 movement on the other hand does not fit the case size and would have been much better suited in a 39 mm case vs 42m...
