I'll start -

Because I have two sons and each son is treated exactly equal. My wife of 24 years explained that if I purchase a Patek as heirloom to give to the next generation I should do the same for both children to prevent any family conflict. All I can say is than...

A good policy...

and easier to apply when both children are boys.

In this case, Kudos to you, Aussie.

There are many reasons to get 2 of the same watches... - One can be a beater, the other is there in the safe, just in case the first is broken, stolen, lost, etc... - Two sons or more, like you, Aussie. - The Flipper...Is it useful to elaborate? Best, Nic...

Almost

Aussie, I've owned more than one identical model several times: Once with a platinum AP because I thought it was so special; several times with beaters that I wanted to make sure I had replacements for, and once with a model my son and I both like to wear...

I do, but not of Patek.

For Patek, it's too much money for me. I have two pairs of IWCs: Ref. 803A steel, one anthracite and one silver dial; Ref. 810A steel, one plain IWC and one IWC Turler dial. In the somewhat unlikely event that my kids like watches, I guess they can break ...

same here...same reference but different manufacture

I have a Tag Heuer 2000 Professional (quartz) and a 2000 Automatic. I received the quartz model as a gift when I turned 16 and purchased the 2000 automatic since I really like the 2000's look but wanted an automatic movement.

I do....

 By: optionc : May 8th, 2010-03:10
i used to sometimes buy 2 but as i've matured as a collector (and realized that there is no such thing as a grail and i'll always want something new).... I've changed and now my view is why bother.... except for the ultra high-end stuff you can always fin...

I agreee too

 By: hooscar : May 8th, 2010-09:42
I think there is always something new that you will want go after............why spend money on the same thing, unless money is not an issue.

Absolutely ... Yes !

They are all beautiful, yet so easy to get hairlines. So I often end up wearing my 5107P or 5091J (the Sculpture).

At one time I did, but Lange, not Patek

 By: Baron - Mr Red : May 8th, 2010-10:34
i had been looking for something specific and just couldn't find what i was looking for. Then two great versions came up at once, and i took them both. These are both vintage watches. WOuld i normally do this? No.

Guilty as charged - ref 1593 yg and plat and still searching for pg

 By: watch-guy.com : May 8th, 2010-20:00

Beautiful vintage 1593 Pateks

 By: 1watch : May 9th, 2010-22:06
I only own two Pateks, both of vintage variety. One is a ref. 1450 YG "tophat" with original dial and 9-90 movement like the 1593, the other is a 1970 thin dress watch. I do not wear either watch, but have them in my vintage collection along with a '50's ...

I WISH I could afford the 4 different 5070's
