you should have engaged that "gentleman" in a conversation! i'm sure he would be glad to see someone recognizing his watch and able to name the name of the model as well!
but: there is nothing extraordinary seeing PP wearers on campus, they -including me- are everywhere! 
last time i met a PP wearer, i looked at his watch and he looked at mine. it was like exchanging a secret handshake!

a fake?
i thought that -unless it's a fake- any patek model can survive undamaged a rain fall, or am i misinformed? if raindrops can damage a watch, how about sweating profusely?

I'm just commenting about the fact that the minute repeater is not as water resistant as other PP models due to the mechanism. The entire family is very well dressed, and their watches and jewelries all speak "money"
