Interesting article. Although it was somewhat common knowledge, I didn't know Antiquorum/Patrizzi and the brands were somewhat open about it. Nor did I have any idea to which extent it was happening, but the article and the list of watches seem to indicate it happened (happens) a lot. Does anyone know if Patek bought the two world record watches, the platinum world timer and the graves?
What the article doesn't say if it takes two to tango. With other words, are the brands bidding against a private buyer until he bails out or are they bidding against themselve until the price seems right?
Although the Patek Museum must be really nice with all those unique watches being bought by Patek, I always feel there is some romance to a private collection. I like the idea of a watch being sold, dissapearing in a private collection, staying there for 40 years and then popping up again, surprising collectors around the world. I hope the Patek 1463/1563 up for sale in an upcoming auction by Antiquorum ends in a provate collection, I believe Patek already bought the Duke Ellington 1563 some years ago...
