demand for the 5270P

May 13, 2021,17:31 PM

My Ad is one of the largest in the U.S. and received two or more of these watches in the past 12 months. However, each one is sold and he told me he would take as many as Patek would allow. I would guess they made 1,000 of these watches so far and hopefully, they will discontinue it next year as not to saturate the market. The question I have is does Patek care about prices on the secondary market once something is discontinued? If not, they will continue to make this watch as long as it's selling. Time will tell.

Production number of 5270P?

Dear All, I just went to my AD to look at the new 2021 references including the stunning 5236P. While having a chat with staff of AD, I was told that my 5270P acquired in Dec 2018 was the first one they received. So far they only received 3 pieces, and th...

It’s not that sought after, indeed.

For example, an AD here in Frankfurt currently has one on display in their shopping windows (and not for the first time). “Normal” ADs usually get one piece of such a model per year (sometimes none). Given that there are approximately 400 dealers worldwid...

Agree with V.

And in my opinion the 5270p with Salmon dial was an attempt to lift the popularity of a model which received a Luke warm reception so close to the 5970. In a similar way the 5170 did after the 5070. I for one would have left the hands and dial alone in li...

I actually like the contrast between black oxidized gold hands/ arabic numeral and salmon dial. That's one of the features attracted me to pull the trigger.

However, I find the rounded and 3 dimensional hands of 5970 more desirable. Needless to say, the Lemania movement is aesthetically more appealing…. Though the activation of chronograph hands may be smoother in the new CH-29 caliber. Regarding new version/...

Thanks for your compliment to this salmon.

Not every good movie will be a great hit. But this beauty has won my heart, that’s for sure.

Hi Henry, Great to hear you have a close relationship with your AD and was allocated this delicious salmon 🐠!

Although a piece a year for an AD does not sound like a lot, but assuming that your AD has sold all its three 5270P over the past years, the 5270P in such case is doing quite well IMO. Reason is that If this logic is applied across all the 400 ADs across ...

Thanks for your cool analysis from a business point of view, Gordon :)

I think at this moment of time, this reference is indeed not the most sought after item among collectors. Perhaps it is the best time to acquire if one is genuinely interested to it, before it soars when discontinued (my biased wish……)

This May be the best looking watch I’ve ever seen!

Based on their price, seems hard to believe this reference is not highly sought after. Mazel Tov on a beautiful watch.

Yes, high end watch collection is a niche market.

But regarding the list price, it is only 16% more than the white gold version and that’s quite fair in my opinion.

My AD had received 3 pieces so far and due another this year

I have a relationship with another AD and they have received 1 per year as well. Initially there was a high demand for this piece but I was told the demand has decreased now. However both ADs had no problems moving this piece.

Most unique reference in current production

I find this reference the epitome of current modern Pateks. PCC has been the bread/butter of what the Patek brand is and the SS craze overshadowed that aspect. Having a PCC platinum with Salmon dial is a remarkable understatement for this reference and I ...

Lots of them

My AD receives more than 3-4 per year for 5270p. Not to mention 5270/1r where it’s being delivered for 3 consecutive months now. That’s why we see price moving around $150k. Demand is soft whereas supply is abundant.

Such a amazing and beautiful PP

Was lucky to have tried one a while ago at a local AD . Absolute love it . Would be my choice if I could pickup a PP at this price point

Not sure demand is “soft”

 By: Langeholic : May 2nd, 2021-16:12
Let’s put things into perspective. A supply of 300-500 timepieces over 2 or 3 years is fairly abundant in the world of “grand complications”. Coupled with PP inflation over the last 15 years, those typically attracted to such a model are either 1) Thinkin...
