Question on Grand Seiko 9S86 accuracy
Hey GS fellows,
I'm loving my SBGJ021 so far, and it's behaving really well (+3 seconds in five days). Now, I've read some field reports about the 9S86 caliber being even more accurate, and factors like winding it at a specific time everyday and positioning when the watch is not being used help. I've read the instructions manual, but I'm curious to know your experience with it - which resting position(s) do you use to gain/lose seconds, how many turns of the winding crown is enough, any info you feel like sharing.

in general, I have found on its side slower, and on its face faster
That's certainly true of the Presage I timed for three days last week, and I have found it so on some other watches too. But every watch is different.
You just have to experiment - it will take a few days or weeks but then watches have "all the time they need", right?
As far as winding, if it's an automatic give it 20 turns or so and don't bother after that, as it should fill itself and stay wound (with reasonable activity on your part).

When you say "on its face", you mean dial down?
Yes, face down on the crystal
most people don't ever place their watches that way, but think of it, that's equal to dial down, back of movement UP as normally a watchmaker is adjusting the movement. And in that position the hairspring is horizontal, not vertical or at an angle.
