On a quiet Tuesday night while the family is asleep.. I took random shots of my current favorite. Sorry the pics are amateurish cos I did not use a proper camera....hope u enjoy the pics and if you have pics of your Explorer I, do share them too..never get tired of them.. They look alike but taken at different time.. Some you could almost see my face if not my hand on the reflection.. LOL..

...the 1016 and the 6610, other than production units, year, the appearance on the dial, and maybe minor change to the movement? Of course it would be my pleasure to read and to learn if it is your pleasure to inform and guide Thanks in advance, Nico.  I saw a nice 1016 or was it 6610 once but too afraid to commit as i lack the expertise to sniff out an authentic one.

The 6610 always  comes with a Swiss dial, which is not the case on the 1016.

The 6610 has a lollipop second hand.

The case is a bit smaller on the 6610 ( 1 mm less, but I have to check ).

The movement  of the 6610 is not hacking, while, on the 1016, it is hacking, from the years 1970.

..1016 was improved with a hacking seconds and other features perhaps.  So we can say 6610 is even rarer than 1016 but do you prefer the 1016 over the 6610?

Indeed, it is much rarer than a 1016, as it was produced for a very few years (  circa 3, maybe 4 years ), while the 1016 was in production for at least 20 years, but I don't care about rarity.

Yuo can find a very nice 1016 and an ugly 6610, though.

It is a matter of condition and patina.

Always a pleasure to see one, thanx for sharing.  Just earlier today, i was at the office and a client walked over and asked "hey, nice Rolex, but why didn't you get a larger one, since they have 40mm Submariners..." and stuff, and i just told him, look...an Explorer original size is this 36mm... it may appear small to him, but i cannot imagine any other size other than this 36mm which i adore...

..Subs, YMs, GMTs, and even Datejust, the Explorer I has enjoyed a low-key success and not much of a mass appeal IMO... it takes a few to appreciate the beautiful simplicity of it... especially the vintage Explorers, and comparing to vintage Subs, one gets more kick out of the Explorer I..... IMO..  Pls get one and join the club, George, i think only a small percentage of members here actually wears the Explorer...
