Just wondering does these good old rules (re the regulating bit) still applicable for today’s model Rolexes such as the Day Date 40 or the sport models? 🤔

Interesting details from the old school manual.

I was wondering if Rolex mentioned anything about gains or losses due to temperature variations.

I have seen Seiko mechanical watch manuals stating that a warmer temperature caused the watch to lose seconds and vice versa.

Eternal truths ? Or do more modern watches with super everything resistant alloys actually do not get affected in the same manner ?

positional regulation does not work on modern Rolex watches. I have done this experiment on a 2010 Milgauss GV and 2014 Sky-dweller, and in all positions they tend to gain 1 or 2 secs per day. [I didn't do this on more modern watches (>2015), since they run within +/- 2 sec/day spec., and in practice it is just ~1s gain in 36-48 hours. The deviation is so small that regulation doesn't matter.]

Now, the advice re cleaning is something I follow pretty much everyday. Dish soap and warm water, though I don't use brushes to avoid PCL scratches.

Except that I don't wear a single watch long enough to notice if it gains or loses time, or have the patience to test this concept.
