Royal Mail international signed for does £500 and is very good. i've been lucky, i've bought and sold perhaps 1000 watches over the years and never lost anything. i've had con artists try to say it hasnt arrived, but copies of signatures soon put them to sleep. i always advise buyers that $500 is max insurance and if they arent happy they dont buy which is fine by me.
for incoming, from asia ems is best and from US usps is best.
sorry for your loss, it just shows that jewellery and watches have low insurance max for a reason. they employ people who cant be trusted.

If it was stolen by the employee of Fedex, I don't think Fedex can rely on the limited liability clause.
You need to lodge a police report against Fedex and write to Fedex for explanation in detail. Get advice from the solicitors in UK.
I hope you will resolve the matter soon.

Of course, you have to prove it. It doesn't matter how fine is the print.

rip....
Ling is correct that the small print does NOT absolve Fedex if it is an inside job.

Remember that FedEx and UPS only insure watches/jewellery up to $500, no matter if you put down $10,000 and pay the added insurance. You need a 3rd party insurer to insure your package over $500.
Otherwise, for those in the US, you can use USPS Express Global Mail where you can insure more than $500, but each country has its own rules regarding max insurance on watches/jewellery. And some countries even prohibit any incoming shipments of watches/jewellery.

We'll have an eye on it, my friend.

....one lesson that I have learned.
while that does not help you now I share in your angier. I never use Fedex because having dealt with them so many times I realised that while they advertise to giving a good service it is far from the truth.
I'd rather post by local mail carrier (unmarked and uninsured) and see what happens- have done this 5-6 times with no issues.
