It is always nice to see our circle of watch enthusiasts expanding! For
me, the PanoMatic Date is one of the most attractive watches on the
market:
It is clean and pure in its design; exactly, what many prefer as
'teutonic' watch design. A bit of understatement, no flashy or
colourful extras, but the variations in the dial surface finish make it
a watch you can study, over and over again. And when you turn it over,
you get something to adore for the next couple of hours ...
Regarding your concerns about the size: I am aware that the fashion
stream is going towards larger sizes. However, I already see a turn of
the trend, already away from > 44mm cases, back to more 'wearable'
sizes. I believe that the size of men's watches will stay between 38
and 42mm, with the elegant pieces more on the smaller, and the sportive
pieces more on the larger side.
I have a wide wrist, more than 22cm circumference, and have no problems
with even 46mm watches. However, I have to admit, that large and bulky
watches increasingly disappear from my wish lists, and those I have,
are sold off one after another. The last case being an IWC GST
Aquatimer, with about 43mm. At this size, I feel that the crown is
burying into the back of the hand, whenever I bend the hand, my wife is
complaining about being hurt by the big watches, whenever she shifts
the gear in the car, with me sitting aside her. As a consequence, most
of my watches now are under 42mm, and I feel most comfortable with
watches of 40mm diameter and slightly smaller. This of course includes
the PanoMatic Date. Due to its narrow bezel and the monochrome dial, it
appears substantially larger than it is, and I think this effect is
even increased with the steel bracelet.
If you purchase the watch in Vienna, you will find that discounts have
no particlular tradition in Austrian and German individual trade.
Consequently, the list prices normally also are the sales prices, with
a few percent maybe given when paying cash or so. However, you should
note that the price lists already include the national sales tax, which
in Austria is 20%. You are entitled to a full refund of the sales tax
on export of the watch. Normally the dealer and you have to fill out a
refund request form, and the money is then transferred to your account,
after you left the European Union. However, it is possible that you
then have to pay your national sales tax upon import of the watch.
With best regards,
Marcus
