Remember entering a salaš in Vojvodina with my mom. At the first table sat a group of police officers. My mom entered the conversation with, ‘Is it tasty?’ to which they responded, ‘Sure thing - do you want to sample some?’ 😁 Not the kind of conversation one would have with police officers in many other countries 😂

A lot of what my classmates did for fun would, by present-day Western European and American standards be borderline or totally illegal.... Despite having abstained from most such activities myself, even some of what I did could have gotten me kicked out of class.... Even my mom's generation was, by those same standards, totally unhinged, she's got countless tales from 10 years of medical school in Belgrade.... 🤪
