A Berthoud Duo

Two Ferdinand Berthoud timepieces:

  • Chronomètre FB 2RE.1 with a 44 x 14.30 mm white gold case
  • Chronomètre FB 2RES.2-2 with a 44 x 14.30 mm rose gold case
As i prefer solid dials, the FB 2RE has always been my favorite Berthoud.

This is the problem I have with FB: The movements and the backsides are gorgeous, but the front leaves me cold. Here, the one on the left is too " simple ", and the one on the right too " complex "...

It’s that enamel one. In person it looks much better. The curved enamel dial is very, very cool in the flesh

The solid dial Berthoud, the ALS Richard Lange, and the 1921 are my all-time favorite time-only watches in a traditional case (meaning not including rectangular and other 'exotic' shapes)👏🙂‍↕️

The open dial design is a key component of FB but to me as well the WG solid dial with the PR on the back appeals more 🙌🏻

I think it's utterly fantastic.
Its dial is simple, yet the piece has a certain gravitas and an undeniable wrist presence.

Those are both beautiful. The movements are, of course, amazing, and I love both dial approaches.

I’ll tack on with two more. One a complex tourbillon, and one their simpler cylindrical hairspring model.
