Had a chance to look at this vintage Jumbo. Can i call it that?

Just had a few things on my mind before pulling the trigger.

1- The seller had no idea from what year or period it is from?

I can see at the case back the serial number is only 3 digits. No alphabet what so ever.

2- All this while the Jumbo had been using the 2121 "JLC" movemetn correct?

3- Are there anything to look out for when considering pieces like this considering its age?

4- I am thinking maybe a routine service by AP is in order if i do purchase it just to be on the safe side.

5- The sapphire has a small "scratch" on the 12 o'clock position but thats easy to replace.

it looks like a late seventies Ref. 5402 so it is a Vintage Jumbo, did you take pics of the caseback and the crown and the clasp of the bracelet? how is the condition of the bracelet? is it tight or do the links have gaps in them?

because there are no small minute markers, as we knew from 5402

(or are there 5402 existing with this dial?).

I think perhabs the watch is on a small wrist, so it seems to be as "big"

as a 5402. It is perhabs another reference or perhabs not the original dial

(perhabs a dial from a 5402 gold-version)

Coulor looks a little bit that it could be a tantal-version. But no second hand and i

dont know, if there existe tantal-versions 36 mm or more without second hand.

But we need better pictures in the way salman told you.

And give us the diameter from the case (from left to right without the crown)

I really appreciate it.
Maybe i was in too much of a rush and reacted too quickly.

The watch is actually currently at the AP boutique and being arranged to have it sent to Singapore's AP service center to get an estimate on service cost.

From my memory, the bracelet does have a bit of gap and little stretch to it. But nothing serious.

The buckle clasp is not the newer one but instead the "Rolex" thin metal kind. I hope you guys know what i mean.

Diameter of the watch i would say no more than 40mm? I'm not sure, maybe i will go to the boutique tomorrow and have it measured myself.

- Is there any place i should look to determine the ref of the watch?

- Should the service center find anything not original or not correct for this ref will they refuse to service?
- If so then i have a base for argument and get my money refunded as it is not all original.

- Anything else i should check on the watch while i am at it when i make my way to the to boutique tomorrow?

I tried maybe 20-30 attempts but only really got 2 pic out of it.

One of the dial side. I can confirm that the dial does not have minute markers.
- I did some search online and cant find any that does not have any minute markers. Now i am a bit worried.

The case back does not have any alphabet before the serial number.
- Does it mean its an A-series?

The SC "should" refuse service if they find any parts that is not original right?

The Two Tone and Gold Models of the 5402 did not come with a Letter before the number so it does not mean its an A series. Did you measure the case? was it around 39mm to 40mm?, the dial font style and the fact it's a Swiss Dial and not Swiss Made for me says its a 5402.

Sorry i forgot to measure the size of the case.
I was wearing my Speak-Marin 38mm when i was in the shop and the Jumbo seems the same size, so i would guess its at least 39mm.

Its off to the service center come Monday. So i guess when i receive notice from them then i can update everyone on their findings.

Sadly will take at least a month just to get the service estimate.

A friendly member pointed me to a FS thread on another forum of the same model watch. All i can tell from the other thread is that the dial does not have minute markers.

But on the sales thread it did mention it had a replacement dial and hands and thus a "Swiss Made" on the bottom of the dial.

I appreciate all that help until now and i thank you guys!

On a side note i found out from the website that i can request a certificate or origin of authenticity from AP, has anyone done it before?
The SA in the boutique said it cant be done, oh well..maybe they dont know this service exist.

Not very pleasant news.
Since its been more than a month since i handed my watch in.
Just emailed the Singapore SC and their response was fast. Called me back within 15mins.

They sounded surprised as they instructed the Malaysia boutique to contact me in the first week of May!
No call not even email from anyone.

As it turns out, the watch needs to go back to Swiss HQ because of its "age" and also they don't stock the parts in Singapore.

So all this while the service center has been waiting for my green light to ship the watch over.

No way of giving me any indicative pricing on service.

Anyone has any idea how much it would cost lets say for a "routine" service at this point?

Really disappointed at the local boutique for the lack of customer service.
