Different movement, of course.
The original ROO was a winner, and this one is too. Lovely watch.

I expect more from AP, what are they afraid of? push the envelope guys, don't be afraid, get back to the cutting edge circa 2006/7/8. Newer and Stronger Materials being developed. Your Forged Carbon watches were so cool and cutting edge, you can do more.

You did see the new 50 piece tourbillons, right? I would say they are shoving the envelope pretty hard!

I am sure there some great pieces still to be unveiled by AP for SIHH and I am always excited to see what AP has for us. I did see the 50 piece tourbillon. It's nice, probably MSRP is USD 100k plus. I was talking about the sub USD 60k level where they created exciting new pieces like the RB2, the T3, EODs, the Alinghi Carbon, the Grand Prix, Survivor and so on. If the original AP Royal Oak Offshore design was launched in a Full Forged Carbon Case and Bracelet, that would have been pushing the envelope in my books. 

I like it!

It is steel, but not limited. At least, the information I was sent by AP states the tourbillons are 50 each, but it does not say that for this "re-issue". I therefore hope it is not limited.

The first Offshore ref. 25721ST.OO.1000ST.01 aka. The Beast was launched in 1993 to general disdain but today, everyone recognizes that “The Beast” led the way in opening a whole new segment for AP, the highly successful luxury sport watch market.  However, The Beast is not really that rare on the collectors’ market.  We’re not at any significant anniversary of the ROO.  So what’s with the re-issue?  Was AP motivated by the highly acclaimed and successful; 60th anniversary re-issue of the original Speedmaster by Omega?

The way my brain works, one year is no more important than another. 25, 24, 27... whatever. But there is not another model like this in the current lineup. I don't have anything that says it is a limited edition. I don't think it has to do with being rare, and certainly AP could give a (blank) less about what Omega does. I feel it is simply about offering current AP enthusiasts a chance to own the original Offshore model but in current production. Is it really any different than the current 15202 is to the original Royal Oak?
Maybe they will release some more information about the decision at SIHH.
