...on Christmas day. A friend, knowing my love for the brand, is close to gifting me with a 60's Memovox. Prior to committing to this purchase however he has asked a question. Since I have no answer I am taking the liberty of asking my more knowledgeable friends on this forum. It seams that this particular watch contains a Dunhill bumper movement.  During the 60's did JLC use Dunhill bumper movements in their Memovox or has someone simply created a Frankenstein?  Thank you all and have a very safe and Merry Christmas.

While they had, at this moment, the Cal 815 ( without Date ), and the 825 ( with Date ), which are both Atuomatic Bumpers movements home made...

But I now know that the more you believe you know, the less you know...

Maybe Clavi, Herrk, Ilja will confirm or infrim my point of view.

When it comes to this "Grand House" and all of its permutations the one thing that I truly know is that I definitely do not know much. Thank you again for taking the time to respond on this wonderful day.

I have a old watch book (A Schiffer collectors from 1994) which features a Dunhill by LeCoultre. Basically, a gold filled case with stylised arabic font. Calibre is the Memodate calendar (825).

So perhaps as well as providing the movement, perhaps LeCoultre also decorated it with "Dunhill".

 

As I previously said, I don't see Dunhill using a Dunhill bumper on their watches, but I see, as Cartier did with ...The Memovox too ( See Clavi's post on the Memovox he recently picked ).

That may be the good answer.

In case the movement is signed Dunhill the dial should

read Dunhill as well. Most likely the dial got changed.

What is the movement's caliber and serial number?

What sort of case is it? Hallmarks, serial...

Do you agree to say that this Dunhill " Memovox " has a JLC Caliber inside?

815 or 825 ( No dae or date )?

Without seeing a picture I can't agree, but yes there have been

JLC's with Dunhill branding. A friend from London has more knowledge

about this topic than me, but he is not an "online person".

Personally I have seen desk alarm/calendar clocks made by JLC,

but with Dunhill on the dial.

First let me thank you all for your replies. I have obtained further information concerning this watch which I am happy to share with you.  It has a stainless steel case, with a silver colored dial that has Jaeger LeCoultre under where the 12 would be since it has stick markers and no numbers. Under the JLC is the word "AUTOMATIC" and it also has a date window at the three o'clock position. There is no reference to Dunhill on the face of the watch. According to the owner the movement is labeled "17 Jewels Swiss Dunhill unadjusted" and inside the case back it is signed LeCoultre with the number 855 below. I believe I may have tested his patience to the limit with my questions.
