... A very good friend of mine is right on the precipice of purchasing a new Jaeger LeCoultre Geographic. It was only about 9 months ago when he started looking at watches that display more than one timezone and he had settled on the Master Geographic in stainless steel, reference 1428421...

Of course, JLC has now released a "hipper" version of the same watch (also in stainless steel) with reference 1428530...

The latest version has more of a chapter dial-like feel, utilizing a brushed or "silvered" affect on the dial. The hands and hour markers have an updated look and also of note is the lack of a date and power reserve, both of which are present on the original version.

Both examples are superb, but I prefer 1428421. How about you? I look forward to your feedback.

At the end of the day
the eventual owner needs to make a decision, I believe, on the basis of emotion. If the watch does not evoke an emotional response, it will eventually be traded.
I would advise the purchaser to try on these pieces if possible, as sometimes our preconceived feelings about these watches change when seen in the real.

Not too fond of the new sector dials, plus now the additional crown somehow 'unbalances' the watch more obviously with the new dial.
The older version feels more complete
The dial layout is more balanced. The applied dial is another plus. It wins out for me due to its timelessness.

I would go for classic
The new one for me is an odd combi of retro elements trapped in a new body.
Even if I like the new model, I would go for the "older" one. I love the organisation of the dial and a power reserve is useful for me. In addition, it has a sportier look that I really like. Price difference can be offset by a negotiation in my opinion.

Well.. The truth is always in the eye of the beholder.. As I am the happy owner of the former, older model (2004), I would again pick this one.. ;))
.. Reason being, IMO the dial somehow looks a bit more symmetric, and
I really like the PR, but also the round counter display for the date @2.
The sector dial, including those skeletoziized some might feel
"cleaner" and simpler, but it somehow lacks this " jai ne sais quoi"..
Altogether, for Yours Truly one now has a (parallel) alternative,
although it is a smaller production batch of pieces.
- I also like the blued hands, and the blue printing of the cities of the "25th";
On the other hand one has these little red accents at the PR indication
and off the "31" on the date counter, all on the older model.
Lastly, if I would have to choose one of the "25" Anniversary Master
Control. I'd pick the Chrono first, also as I'm covered as far as the
Geographic is concerned.
- Just my Humble 2 cents.

Newer version for me
I prefer the symmetry of the new model. I also don't care for a power reserve indicator on an automatic model.
Other than those two things, I find both dials great in different ways and would enjoy owning either. As they say, I would not kick either out of bed
My biggest gripe with both watches is that the timezone change is for the sub-dial, where I would have liked the main time to have the quick change tied to the country ring, while the sub-dial shows home-time.

I would say the original, which is considered a "Masterpiece" within the industry...
unless, of course, he prefers the sector dial. I believe the sector dial will be short-lived, since it's for the 25th anniversary of the Master Controls.
