I have a problem with my RM11 in that the date seems to be faulty. When it came to change from the 19th to the 20th, it just didnt do it, it seemed to jam as the watch actually stopped going, even though it was pretty much fully wound before being taken off my wrist at 10pm. I also notice the digits in the date window dont really align up that well.
I saw on another forum a couple of posts about not being able to change the date by winding the hands on etc, and Theodore replied to the posters via private mail, so perhaps my question on this is for Theo...any help appreciated...if it needs to go back to RM then fine quite happy to do that, but would like to know firstly if its a common problem or of there is a simple resolution.
Thanks
Have the same problem with my rm11 which I just received new was wondering if you have some insight on this matter. Thanks henry
Trade it in for a HUBLOT i have had mine for a year now and it has not missed a beat and the balance you can buy a new car !
I do wear a panerai 10 day as a daily watch and that has not missed a single beat in 2 years, and to be honest it is obviously quite complex as it is an automatic with a 10 day power reserve.
One has to question RM's quality control really, on such a high ticket item to have such a common problem is really not acceptable, especially as they are touted as a 'racing machine on your wrist' and aligned with the F1 engineering philosopy...surely such an issue as picking up your new $100k watch and the date not changing is too use an analagy the same as your new F1 car stalling on the grid.
Anyway I have read the probelm stories & I have read Richard Milles take on the problem stories, and I have to say that I do love the RM watches so I am quite prepared to send mine back & get it resolved, and I hope I have many years of fault free wear out of it. Must admit that just a 2 year warranty period on the watch might make me a little nervous, as if they are not shipped out working, how can one tell about longevity, and I am sure that repairs down the line when out of warranty will not be cheap.
I just dont understand how the watches are not left running to check such issues before leaving the factory, if its a fault from new, as I say doesnt bode well for RM's quality control
Like I say prepared to give RM the benefit as I really do apprecaite what a special timepiece it is, and hopefully problems such as mine are relatively isolated.
Fair comment Lion heart, we all have money & we all have choices to make with it, how far do you take it?...you could wear a perfectly adequate $19.99 timex & have bought a better car.
To be honest those that buy $100k watches probably also can drive whatever cars they like within reason, ie its not a choice of one or the other. Personally I like watches but also view them as something that I can invest in with my disposal income. Had an AP Barrichello I paid $24k for sold it for $45k, chuffed about that one!..so whilst other watches may not shift in value or may even drop, its still better than having your money in many of todays financial institutions.
To stay on topic yes I agree its pretty poor for a nw watch in this value bracket to have an issue, its acceptable if its sorted quickly and the watch goes on to prove reliable over many years. The bit I find the hardest to understand is how these watches left the factory & manage to get sold by dealers, I thought the dealers would put them in the winder boxes, in which case they must be aware the date isnt working!...dont know how much of a problem it is with the Rm11 overall, but it seems a few people suffer the same issue. which like I said questions RM's & Rm's dealers quality control on a known problem
Hope you get yours fixed quickly.
Cheers,
Anthony
The Aero bang on the other hand, well; to each his own, I'll just leave it at that...Back to RM in london...apparantly the date issue is indeed a common problem on the 11's and RM repsonded as below:-
The date change issue with your watch is a problem that has been occurring quite often with the RM011 watches. We have created a kit to modify the date change mechanism which solves the problem. Our watch repairer here will be able to make this modification to your watch.
Looking forward to getting it back 'modified'!
I have posted this so that if anyone else searches for 'date problems' etc then hopefully they will come across this thread which will explain what they need to do
and dates to 7th Aug 2008, and has the problem. I have no idea if the modification kit is only required in ones that have had the problem or if it was something that has been installed at the factory on later models to prevent it you will have to ask RM, possibly Theo could shed some light on it. Did speak to the UK RM AD and they told me all the ones they have sold have been fine.
